How did your site look in 1997?

I just came across this amazing web archive. If you had a website several years ago or you want to see how your favorite websites looked like a decade back, this is your best bet. I just dug up and found the face of my websites and it was really great to visit so many websites back in time. For example, this is how the Google logo looked like back in 1998/1999.

And this is how Apple’s website looked like in 1997.

What’s kept me busy at gaming?

What’s kept me busy at gaming?

I know this is a weird post with an older game but this is what has kept me busy for quite some time now. It’s Gameloft’s Modern Combat 2 – Black Pegasus. Sounds crazy but I’ve spent hours and hours of online play after I completed the rich single player story. Awesome game with amazing game play and guess what I did after playing this? I was about to upgrade my desktop PC (i3 processor and an Nvidia 8800 GT), I dropped the idea of upgrading it and sold the poor desktop as well. I’ve truly gone mobile-gaming now :)

You can get a copy for yourself on Android as well as on iPhone if you are interested. Every dollar spent is worth it, guaranteed!

Still not convinced? Watch the video trailer here:

Is it Microsoft vs Apple all over again? HP Pulls the plug on Web-OS.

The news is spreading fast that HP is discontinuing the Web-OS device operations. While this news needs more detailed analysis and we have a long way to go but we are left with lesser number of players when it comes to operating system for the hand-held devices. Google, Apple, RIM and Microsoft are the four major operating system developers. While RIM and Google are no naive souls, I can’t rule out the possibility of a Microsoft vs Apple battle again a few years down the road if these two can eliminate Google and RIM from the race. With Microsoft’s strategic alliance with Nokia and Apple’s discontinued success story gives rise to the support for this possible traditional rivalry coming to the Smartphone and Tablet’s world soon.

BlackBerry PlayBook Announced – An iPad rival?

BlackBerry PlayBook Announced – An iPad rival?

BlackBerry playbookWell this is pretty much following Apple’s footstep and launching a 7 inch tablet is really not very innovative but its a cool addition to the available tablet options. This is a very moderate start to announced the launch a very exciting product actually. BlackBerry lovers around the world are excited at the launch and we see some serious competition in the tablet market now.

It’s not only the devices but the BlackBerry tablet OS is also a big announcement at the BlackBerry Devcon in San Francisco today and those who’ve seen it are going crazy I can tell you.

The unveiling video clearly shows the camera capability, multi-tasking, flash in the browser and several other features that are definitely winning against the iPad. Though they are not the first ones to launch the lovable tablet, I’m sure they will definitely grab some market.

Features that really make me go WOW include the HDMI video output for presentations, movies and browsing, full 1080p video playback capability, dual camera for video and still photos and a dual core 1 GHz processor.

iPhone can’t receive calls while GPRS/EDGE connected

iPhone can’t receive calls while GPRS/EDGE connected

iPhone GPRS Call FailureiPhone users, if you are a fan of GPRS/EDGE data use and you have an unlimited plan, the chances are that while you are downloading your favorite songs or apps over EDGE, you’re missing some important calls. The calls get redirected to the voice mail or simply get a not-available message.

This article on Apple’s support website clearly mentions this shortcoming:

If not on 3G, while iPhone is actively transferring data over the cellular data network—downloading a webpage, for example—you may not be able to receive calls. Incoming calls may go to voicemail.

I was shocked when I came to know this because I’ve been a GPRS freak with unlimited data since it became availaable in my country. On smartphones like BlackBerry and Android, it is obvious that your phone is almost always sending and/or receiving data. This means, the phone should simply refuse to receive any calls? The way above issue has been mentinoed as a “Note”, I don’t think Apple is thinking of finding a solution to this problem.

Happy using Apple’s iPhone ;)
