Google Chrome OS – its fast, its secure, its totally web based and its source code is available now!

Google chrome OS was announced back in July and today Google announces that the project is open-source now. Its free and its available. You have access to Google chrome’s code base, initial design and some user interface experiments.
Three most important things that come as part of the announcement are:
- Every application on Chrome OS will be a web application. Nothing gets installed and everything stays online. That makes it more secure, easy, accessible and reliable.
- Its super secure and self healing. It will be real hard to infect and harm this OS and every time the OS will boot, it’ll check for integrity and will self heal if needed.
- Last but not least, get ready for the super speeds. From pressing the power button to surfing the Internet, it’ll take a few seconds. Google is optimizing it to its max.
Its already much more than something to get excited about but it’ll take some time. The OS will be available for the users around November 2010 or so. Anything that comes out before it definitely fake
Last but not least, you must watch following videos about the Chrome OS
And by any chance if you want to build on top of the code, chromium.org is the place to start.

Earlier today a post on Gizmodo steared me to a link that claimed to be a download site for much anticipated Google Chrome OS’s beta download site. In anticipation, I reported that in my earlier post as well. Quite interestingly, the site was not a google product site but was hosted on sites.google.com. I still gave it serious shot and tried downloading it. Second thing I felt strange about was, the download was available in both iso as well as vmx format that allows you to run the OS on a vmplayer. Last but not least, the download tool was a third party torrent tool that quickly downloaded the 560 MB OS for me.
I preferred a VM download so that I can boot it right on top of my existing OS. Then I went back to the download site to read the other information on that page, but by that time the site had already been removed by Google for the obvious violation of terms of service. Then I tried to hit Gizmodo but their link was dead too by that time. What I ended up was with a VM that is still running on my VM player and looks for sure like a modified linux OS that has a chrome browser and other google tools installed on it.
I’m not sure if the real Chrome OS will look like this but everything on this copy of OS works for real. I’m posting some of the screenshots here.

Good news friends and fellows. Google’s much awaited Chrome OS that is targetted for Netbooks is available in its early Beta now. Version 0.4.223 is available for download from Google’s site. You can either download a virtual machine or download an ISO that you can burn to a disk. Please note that if you download an ISO, you’ll have to install it on the PC and it will not run as a live disk (the way Ubuntu or other Linux flavors do).
I’m downloading the OS right now. Will post you more info as soon as I have the OS running.
So far it has been a smooth download. The download page launches a java based applet that works as a torrent client and connects to several sites to quickly download the OS. The size of the VM file is 560 megabyte. Happy downloading.

After downloading, installing and running the OS, I figured out that IT IS A FAKE CHROME OS
Windows 7 to ship without Internet Explorer in Europe
Posted by BA on Jul 8, 2009 in Uncategorized | 0 comments
After a consistent pressure from European Union Microsoft has decided to ship Microsoft Windows 7 without its web-browser Internet Explorer 8. The browser-less Windows 7 is called “Windows 7 E”. This will be first version of Windows after Windows 3.11 for work-group to be shipped without Internet Explorer.
This decision has for sure been taken as a result of the anti-trust cases Microsoft has been facing from EU. Windows 7 is scheduled to be shipped later this year and its release candidate is already available for download. Windows 7 no doubt is way better than Windows Vista in my experience. You can download RC version of Windows 7 from Windows website. This version will work till March 1, 2010, so you have a lot of time to play around with the new Windows 7 and by then, launch of Chrome OS by google will be a few months away <<>>

A real Windows Killer is here!!

Google today announced its new operating system named Google Chrome OS. I’m sure they are putting some real effort in promoting Chrome brand and come up with some new software under the same flag soon. Google Chrome OS is an open source light-weight operating system targeted at Netbooks initially but nobody is stopping us from installing it on our desktops and laptops.
The OS will run on both x86 as well as ARM family of processors and is based no a Linux. The target of the OS is to stay lightweight, fast and easy and make lives of the computer users easier. Google announces that the OS will be available to public in second half of 2010 and we can all keep our fingers crossed
What does this mean?
- Things have never been that good for Linux I must say.
- Run Microsoft, Run!!!!
- Mobile, Netbook, Notebook, Desktop, it’ll be all google in a few years
- Google will have more control over our lives :p
